But, I don’t care.
I’m getting awfully sick of having this Tsunami relief fund thing in my face 24/7. It’s on the Net, it’s on the radio, it’s on the TV, and it’s even on stickers and buttons on people’s shirts!!! Esmond and I were watching Friends and Joey on TV last night, and we saw several commercials about the TRF. Honestly, I know we all have to do our best to help those people over there (some of which are my own people), but dammit!! No need to flaunt it off like it’s the next big thing! Maybe it’s never occured to some people, but making a big deal out of the whole incident and putting these victims in the spotlight is not helping things. Donations aside, we are all aware of what’s going on. If somebody is not, then they’re the kind of people who just don’t want to be. Shamelessly begging for donations through subliminal advertisements is a brand-new low. Sometimes, it’s better to help people by not helping them. I’m sure there are many of the victims who are thinking, “I don’t need charity from these people, because we are also human like they are and we can take care of ourselves, no matter what has happened.”
On the other end of the spectrum, I’m not a total moron, and I know that a lot of money is needed to repair houses and other structures, so donate what you can to the TRF. But, don’t do it because you feel pity for these people, do it because buildings are hella expensive to rebuild. Or, do a better thing by donating yourself to help rebuild. Honest gestures are better than money. Heck, even honest thoughts are better than money.
